Limerick lace stitches sampler

A Limerick lace sampler created in 2023-2024 to experiment with the stitches in Sheila Regan’s book “The Art and Craft of Limerick Needle-Run Lace”.

One of the issues most beginners in Limerick lace is selecting a particular stitch for fillings. The various books show photos and diagrams, however seeing the stitch in real life and possibly with a magnifying glass gives lacemakers a better idea about how the stitch would look like when worked. Also, choosing the direction in relation to the orientation of the net is very important.

I created a sampler – 12 “pages” made of blue satin with a wadding inside, to which I attached a distinctive leaf filled with one or two Limerick lace stitches. Each “page” has an NFC tag inside. When the lacemaker brings their smartphone to 2-3cm from the page, the phone brings them to a web page with the name of the stitch, a drawing, and instructions. While the lace side of the sampler is 90% finished, the web pages to accompany them are still work in progress.

Materials Used : Cotton net, cotton thread, blue satin, wadding, NFC tags

Techniques Used: Tambour Limerick lace for most of the contours, needle-run Limerick lace for the filling stitches.

This page has some sub pages.
